Bi-monthly Saturday Night Dances
Bi-monthly Saturday night dances at the John C. Campbell Folk School, 8-11 pm. Contra and square dances for adults, children, beginners, singles, and couples, with live music and callers from near and far. Visit the John C. Fireside Friday
Second Friday of every month, featuring local writers, poets, and musicians. 5-7 pm. at Curiosity Shop Bookstore.


Folk School Concerts
Folk School Concerts are open to the public. They are scheduled for most (but not all) Friday evenings at 7:30 pm. The public is welcome to enjoy a public display of Folk School student crafts from 6:40-7:00 pm in the Keith House Community Room, where the concerts are held. Free Admission.


Heritage Partners
The Hertiage Partners will meet the 3rd Thursday of each month at Murphy Electric Power Board, 5.00 p.m.


Murphy Mornings
Open Saturdays from 10 am- 2pm, April-October in the pocketparks on the corners of Peachtree and Tennessee streets, downtown Murphy, featuring Cedar Valley Farmer's Market; quilters and crafters welcome. For more information, call Jeremiah Smith, 828-837-5143.


Murphy Public Library

Music in the Shoppes of Murphy
The 1st Friday of each month, March thru October, a live band performs from 7-10 p.m. The 3rd Friday of each month is Dance Night at the Daily Grind. Other events include wine tastings. For more information contact the Daily Grind at 828-835-7322.


Street Dance
March of Dimes Street Dances will be held Friday night July through August from 6 to 9 pm in the parking lot of Liberty Tax Service and Job Link. Entry fee $2 students and $3 adults. All proceeds go to March of Dimes. No drugs or alcoholic beverages allowed. Contact Laura Rivers: 828-835-3549.

Annual Fishing Derby
The U.S. Forest Service along with the N.C. Cooperative extension service 4-H program and local sponsors, are offering the annual fishing derby for kids from 7-10:30 am at Cherokee Lake. Pre-registration can be made at the U.S. Forest Service office from 8 am to 4:30 pm. Registration will begin on site at 7 am. All children must be accompanied by an adult. Snacks, drinks and bait will be provided, but kids need to bring their own fishing poles. Kids 6 and under will fish from the bank and 7-12 year-olds will fish on the pier. 52nd Wagon Train
Will gather in Andrews. Saddle up to ride and explore the area in and around Andrews and the Valley River valley with the nations's oldest wagon train. It will parade through Andrews on July 4 at 2:00 pm. For more information call: 828-321-2376.

Fourth Annual Andrews Valley Music Festival
Previous events have brought thousands of folks to listen to music, shop and dine in our beautiful mountains. Music stages will be at the Andrews Recreation Park on Main Street. There will be fun for the entire family, with contests, a petting zoo, a clown, magicians, and the Kidzone. The Festival is free to the public. Murphy Hometown Fourth of July Celebration
Celebrate our nations's birthday with a good old-fashioned hometown celebration! From the 5-K run to, great food, music, crafters, kids games, cake walk, fishing tournament and more events than you can shake a stick at! It all starts at 8 am and ends with a spectacular fireworks display at dark. Organized by The Business Women of Cherokee County, Town of Murphy and the Recreation Dept., the event draws thousands of visitors from near and far. 17th Annual Christian Harmony Shape-Note Singing
10:30 am- 3:00 pm. Pot luck "Dinner On the Grounds" 12:30 pm. Admission to the singing is free. Location: Music Studio, Davidson Hall. Originally published in 1866, William Walker's Christian Harmony is the oldest seven shape collection to have remained in contiuous use, primarily in Western NC and North GA. Will be coming to Cherokee County and displayed in the Konehete Park. Sponsored by Marine Corp League Detachment 1011. "The Moving Wall" is the half-size replica of the Washington, DC Vietnam Veterans Memorial and has been touring the country for more than twenty years.
