Happy Heart Month 1

Feb 2019 Tommy Phillips Murphy Health and Fitness

Meet our Member of the Month, Tommy Phillips of Murphy Health & Fitness!

Tommy Phillips is the Membership Specialist for the new Murphy Health & Fitness in downtown Murphy. He comes to us by way of Tennessee with impressive fitness and pro wrestling experience. We are beyond excited to welcome Tommy to our community and look forward to the complete renovations of this gem.

Yes, I said gem, not gym because it is a huge asset in our community. From swim team practices and lessons, to self-defense and fitness classes, to nutrition counseling, Murphy Health & Fitness is an affordable and healthy option for all of Cherokee County. Disregard all that Wellness Center reputation, this is a brand new facility and we are excited!

On my tour with Tommy I saw the sweet new cardio equipment, one of the fitness rooms will have new flooring and become a room for free weights, more equipment is on the way, the pool is warm, and the 20/30 Fast Track system will give you access to a nutrition specialist to help you focus on overall wellness.

So stop by Murphy Health & Fitness and ask Tommy Phillips to give you a tour of the ever-improving facility. While you’re there, be sure to ask him about that pro wrestling experience and congratulate him on his wedding this weekend. You can also get to know Tommy a bit more when he joins me on WKRK’s Facebook live on February 27th at 4:00pm.

Feb 2019 David Brown Ambassador of Month

Meet our Ambassador of the Month, David Brown of Cherokee Scout!

You read David Db Brown’s name each week in the Cherokee Scout, you watch him as the moderator of debates during elections, and see him at many public events. You would assume he is born here, but the truth is, David first came to Murphy in high school. As a young man he was a voracious reader and enjoyed writing stories, poems, songs, and books. He graduated from International Bible College with a degree in Bible and a minor in communications. His early career offered a variety of moves from state to state with his wife Sharron, and their four children, each born in a different city.

David moved back to Murphy and became the Publisher of the Cherokee Scout in 2003. He genuinely feels he has met more real people since moving to Murphy than anywhere else he has ever lived or worked. David appreciates the sweet tea and down-to-earth people in our community, consciously chooses to never take the natural scenery for granted. He will also never take your trust for granted.

David believes there is great value in what the Cherokee Scout offers to the community. With so many sharing opinions and unconfirmed information on social media as “news”, you can read the Cherokee Scout with confidence, knowing that everything is vetted to confirm the truth. So grab this week’s copy of the Cherokee Scout and find a spot to just read and enjoy this amazing place we call home.

Join us February 20th on WKRK Wednesday at 4:00 pm as David shares a bit more about his experiences in Cherokee County!
